For this callout, a customer contacted us from a large discount store in Blackburn to report their Viper Fang 20HD cleaning machine had a charging failure. With the machine failing to charge it was effectively inoperative and it was important we rectify the issue as they use the machine daily. The store was based in Blackburn, Lancashire, a large town in the county and a location often visited by our engineers due to the large number of retail customers we have there.
Charging Failure Fault Finding
Our engineer travelled north from our headquarters in Shropshire, to the discount retail store in Blackburn, Lancashire. Due to its size, the store had a lot of tiled floor space which needed to be maintained in the face of high customer footfall – which brings with it the usual signs of shoe treads and scuffing. In order to keep in line with store standards and merchandising, and to keep the store looking welcoming to customers, the management made the decision to purchase a Viper Fang 20 battery-operated scrubber dryer. The problem, according to cleaning staff, was that after daily use, the battery for the machine was now failing to charge.
Upon his inspection, the cause of the issue became immediately clear to our engineer – the charging unit had been connected to the wrong Anderson connector; in other words, the reason for the charging failure was due to the charger not being correctly connected to the battery charger. It sounds strange, but it is in fact quite a common issue, despite the fact that all of our machines have an A3 Machines Ltd. Label with full charging instructions printed on them.
Our engineer switched the charging unit to the correct connector and whilst it was charging completed a few other maintenance tasks such as giving the water tank and filter a thorough clean.
This issue was clearly down to a lack of understanding by the operator which is not surprising as you do get a high turnover of staff in the cleaning sector and training isn’t always given to the right standard during handovers.
Viper Fang 20HD Battery Operated Walk Behind Scrubber Dryer
The Viper Fang 20HD is a medium sized battery powered scrubber dryer. It is designed to be robust, due to its rotationally moulded housing, whilst also being manoeuvrable, due to its ergonomic design. It thus strikes that fine balance between usability and solidity. The machine comes with an extra set of squeegees on board, ensuring the user can regularly change and clean part when needed. There is also an on-board charger for the battery. The vacuum motor is two-stage, meaning the pressure applied by the vacuum can be altered for different surfaces if needed.
The brush is powered by a 560w motor whilst the vacuum is also powerful, controlled by a 400w motor. The solution tank can hold 50ltrs of liquid, whilst the recovery tank boasts a capacity of 57ltrs. It weighs approximately 127kg as standard, though this can obviously vary depending on the liquid contained in the machine.
